Lisa Tackett

Lisa first showed an interest in birth as a young child. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she answered, "A baby doctor!"

Years later, she recognized something wasn't right with the status quo of medicalized birth when several of her friends went to medical institutions hoping for peaceful, natural births; these women were discharged with emotional and physical scars.

Lisa threw herself into birth advocacy research, and the statistics and personal stories she found astonished her. She resolved that she would join the ranks of the natural birth advocacy movement. She spent two years as a nurse in an OB/GYN clinic. This invaluable time taught her that the best way to affect change in the ailing system is to educate mothers and give strength to their voices and intuition. Lisa trusts birth and believes that, with adequate support, mothers and their partners can change their world by changing their births.

Joy's journey as a doula began when she became pregnant. She learned that she wanted to be able to help educate, nurture, and love other women and their partners through out their pregnancy and labor. She has had the chance to experience a doula and be a doula for several women. As a doula, she wants to be able to become a friendly face you can count on being familiar with and supporting your preferences.

Janice has been a certified massage therapist for 11 years, practicing with a focus on relaxation. After being present for the births of most of her ten grandchildren, Janice has become passionate about the experience of childbirth. She herself is a mother of seven. Janice has served as Doula in several births so far, and is excited to continue helping women achieve their ideal birthing experience.

Chris has shared her knowledge as a dedicated instructor and advocate for birthing families for more than 20 years. She is Certified as a Childbirth Educator, Doula, Breast-feeding Educator and Happiest Baby on the Block instructor. During those years she has had the privilege of participating in the labors and births of more than 350 babies. Having taught hospital-based classes for years, Chris felt the need to offer parents more, and decided to start her own birth education organization. Birth Matters offers classes to empower and enable families to make the best choices for themselves for the labor and delivery of their baby.

Brenda C. Walters

Brenda Walters background is in therapeutic massage therapy with a specialty in deep tissue work and a certification in pregnancy massage. She has been a certified massage therapist since 1998 and maintains a private practice in Oklahoma City. She has been a contract instructor at the Heritage College covering overviews of pregnancy and infant massage and the role of the Doula.

Throughout the pregnancy and birth of her son Taryn developed an immense passion all things pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding related. Taryn believes that birth is a sacred event that deserves to be nurtured and respected. Taryn has served over 75 families in un-medicated births, medicated births, medically necessary cesarean sections and inductions, waterbirths, homebirth and hospital births. Taryn also has a passion for using Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques for Placenta Encapsulation, a process which involves making capsules out of the placenta for postpartum wellness.
